At the base of the hill of Castelpoto you can still see the ruins of an ancient Roman bridge, the “Bridge of Maurelle”, which allowed for a branch of the Via Latina to climb over the Calore River, to reach the city of Benevento. The final route of the Via Latina, can be traced between the fourth and third centuries BC although, probably, it was already in use at an earlier age, and at first put in direct communication Rome, starting from “Porta Capena”, with inland areas of Sannio.
On one of the four pillars still visible there is the name of the “pontifex” who took care of the construction: “M. MUNATIUS M(ARCI) F(ILIUS)”. .
